During this wānanga, we will delve into the beauty and significance of Matariki, embracing its energy as one of our main kaupapa. It is a time to celebrate new beginnings, personal growth, and connections.

Through participating in activities such as tūwaewae (Māori movement), Mau rākau (traditional weaponry), karakia (incantations), whakatau mauri (Māori meditation), and whakawhanaungatanga (making healthy connections), you will unlock your inner potential and nurture your holistic well-being.

This wānanga is for any wahine aged 15 and above.

Wānanga cost. The cost for this wānanga is a koha which can be brought to the wānanga. The wānanga will start at approximately 5:30 pm on Friday and Finish before lunch on Sunday.

The Hawaiki Kura Charitable Trust has received funding from the Ministry of Youth Development and Lottery Community grant which will go towards delivering this wānanga. The Charitable Trust has decided to work with Hawaiki Kura to deliver this wānanga. Hawaiki Kura would like to thank Hawaiki Kura Charitable Trust, the Ministry of Youth Development and the Lottery Community grant for their support.

Please note while this wānanga is founded on mātauranga Māori ( Māori knowledge) it is not exclusively for Māori and is open to everyone.

Te Kawa O Te Ako / Code of Conduct Guidelines

A high standard of behaviour is required from all attendees at wānanga, and tikanga and kawa (marae protocol) guide everything we do. This policy outlines how participants are expected to conduct themselves. All individuals are to read this policy and become familiar with and abide by these rules, kawa (protocol) and tikanga (accepted practices and customs) at all times.

Expectations:

Appropriate behaviour is required at all times, including respecting all people and property.
Take note of emergency procedures and follow instructions of the facilitators in the event of an emergency.
Report any accidents or incidents to the person in charge.

Zero tolerance:

Absolutely no alcohol or drugs are permitted to be consumed whilst on-site or prior to arriving on-site. Anyone suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be asked and required to leave without delay.

Aggressive, abusive, intimidating or bullying behaviour of any sort will not be tolerated. Anyone who displays such behaviour will be asked and required to leave without delay. Non-observance may also result in participants being disallowed to attend other events.

Smoking or vaping is allowed but only during the breaks and in designated areas.
